Sometimes...

... I really hate shopping.

J and I have a friend's wedding to attend next weekend. I don't have a lot to wear to it. I have a quite nice new red dress I could wear (is it ok to wear red to a wedding these days? It is rather bright). That will be ok if it's warm. Even if it's slightly coolish, I can wear a scarf/wrap type of thing around my shoulders/arms.

If it's cold, however, I'll be a bit stuck! J, Chickie and I went to have a look around the shops and I couldn't find anything I really liked. The stuff I found was either too casual, too 'old' (grandma type stuff) or some very nice dresses - but no warmer than my new dress.

I do have an outfit consisting of a pair of black pants and a nice top that I could wear if it's cool (again, the top is red!). It's not really wedding type dressy (even though the wedding isn't officially formal or anything). It would do, however.

Wearing red to a wedding though - ok, or not?

Red is actually the colour of weddings in China, and white for funerals. I think these days no-one really worries to much, as long as you don't look better than the bride.

Love the new look template by the way. I usually use Google Reader to read blogs, so I hadn't seen it before.

Red shmed! Just go for it!

I don't see anything wrong with wearing red at all! Red is my favourite colour (today).

I thought it was black you shouldn't wear to a wedding. And we Melbournites just cheerfully ignore that because otherwise we'd have nothing to wear! Wear the red. Maybe if it's really cold, wear the red with a wrap and some thermal underwear?

I love the new look template. Nice fresh look.
Red should be ok. It is cheerful anyway.

Hi! I found your blog through Soozadoos.
My old school friends and I had a rule, that on the next wedding you attended after your own, you HAD to wear red. This was decided because after being the centre of attention at your own wedding you need a little bit of "look at me factor" since everyone was looking at you last time when you were the bride.
So, short answer? Yes wear red!!!

Looks like the long range forecast is saying 23 degrees for Saturday. I think I can get away with the dress and wrap.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I was a bit concerned about the 'look at me!!' factor.

You can wear red! As long as the bride's "colors" aren't red. The only no-no's for weddings are anything all-white (esp. if it's lace, lol) and don't wear the same colors as the bridesmaids. Everything else is a go!

Will we get piccies ? :)

No worries. It would only be gauche to wear white or an outfit the outdid the bride's dress. It's her day and you don't want to show her up - or maybe you do!!

yEAH, go for it. I'm going to a wedding this SAturday too. It's a smart casual, backyard affair. I had a quick peek at the shops today and was eyeing off a red top for myself. Decided not to buy simply because I'm sure my standard wardrobe selection will fit the bill.
Tightarse.

I'd say red's fine too. It's much better than all white!

Oh great One said...

As long as you don't upstage the bride I would think you'd be fine! :P

I really like to shop. Maybe it is because I don't get out much.

Red works fine! And you could always dress the pants outfit up with a great pair of shoes and jewelry.

I think your only exception is to not outshine the bride, as it's her day.

I love the new look! I normally read you in an RSS feed and I hadn't seen it. It's very spring like and cheerful!
