I'm an idiot

Ok, I think I've used that title before...

So anyway, we trooped up to Chickie's school this morning for his final orientation visit... and... it was yesterday! We've branded ourselves as hopeless parents before he even starts school officially.

The teacher was still happy to have him stay until after recess so he's there right now, but jeez, I'm such an idiot! It had the correct date on the letter from the school but both J and I didn't see it properly - we both thought they were all Friday visits. Oh well... guess they won't expect too much of us now. Only way is up, and all that.

/shakes head.

I guess this also means I won't find out what was said last week. The curiosity is going to kill me!

Edited to add:

We've just picked him up and the teacher said she nearly made the same mistake as us. She was expecting the kids today and if it wasn't for a comment from the principal earlier this week that they were coming Thursday, she wouldn't have been ready! Phew!

She said Chickie will probably do really well at school. His colouring in is really good (apparently he's excellent at keeping inside the lines) and his writing is also very good. He's already making friends (one of the other kids has 'taken him under his wing') and as we were leaving several of the other kids called out to say goodbye to him. He said he had a good time, so it bodes well for July 23rd (his first proper day of school!).

The teacher did mention, in passing, that last week wasn't the best but didn't elaborate so I've no idea what actually happened. Oh well.

Well, you got that out fo the way and nnow you can press on.

AT least the teacher didn't say "don't worry, we got the fire out in time..."

You know, it struck me as funny that you said Chickie's first day of school is July 23. Simply because here in Canada, the school year goes from September to June. And somehow I figured it was pretty much the same everywhere. Clearly not.

So how does the school year run down under?

Oh the curiousity! No spies with the other parents?

I'm glad Chickie is doing so well! As for missing the date - I had a home visit to do one night and but it was scheduled for after dinner. After I left the office I totally "left" the office and didn't think of it again. Until the next day.

phos - lol!

robin - I answered this on your blog in case you didn't check back. Australia's school year runs January to December with about a 6 week break over Christmas/New Year. 4 terms each year, with about 2 weeks holidays between them. Most kids start at the beginning of the school year but in my state you can start the term after you turn 5. Chickie will have to do a minimum of 3 terms, but to do that he'll end up doing 6 of his 'first' year.

stomper - doh indeed. I was kicking myself.

zazzy - No unfortunately I don't know any of the other parents. And doh! for your missed appointment. The moment you realise it is just embarrassing huh?

And at least the teacher made the same mistake!

Aaaah coloring used to be such a chore for me before... I never understood why I got scolded for not keeping the colors inside the lines. I once said to a teacher "but the sky's blue... surely the sky in my picture also needs a color." No wonder I always got in trouble...

velcro - it made me feel a bit better!

princess - I've no idea why it's so important. My only thought is it's to do with fine motor skills perhaps??

It seems the mistaken date was for the best. He had a good day, & the teacher understood. Good luck to Chickie with his school days.

That sounds really good for Chickie though ( especially when you look at the parents - HA ! :)

meggie and h&b - it does seem that it turned out better for Chickie. I'm so glad the teacher understood!
