We only have half a curtain hanging in our lounge room tonight...
In our lounge room we have a rocker recliner chair. Chickie has a very bad habit of jumping on it and into it. He gets told off and put in time out for doing it. Still he keeps doing it. He's started losing privileges lately.
So tonight, he was doing it again. This time he did it when the chair was pushed up against the curtain, so basically pulled on the curtain and pulled the screw out of the wall and down came half the curtain rod and curtain.
Not happy Jan...
I feel so exposed. Even though we have canvas awnings covering the front verandah, so we're not completely visible from the front yard, it just feels wrong.

Bad Chickie, baaad...!
It's weird how just not having curtains makes you feel like you're living in a fish-bowl.
When I was a kid I was so afraid of getting into trouble for breaking things, I would just fix stuff. Which is probably why I think I can fix anything now.
I'm going to cut to the chase with my kids. The punishment will be fixing the stuff they have broken.
Hopefully, that will motivate them to break less stuff. At least... that is my current plan. Because people without kids can say stupid crap like that.
monicker - I know he didn't mean to do that, but good grief! Guess he'll believe me now when I say that being that rough with the furniture will break things.
she said: fixing it will involve a ladder and a power drill, and while I'm sure he'd love to give a try, he's not going to be given the opportunity hehe.
Did it hit him on the head and give him a bit of a scare ?
My son is a bit like this too..
Boys! They seriously DO listen when you ask them not to perform athletic actions on specific furniture but they just have NO PLACE in their brain to file this information. So EVERY NIGHT (and I'm not exaggerating here) I have to ask Climber not to balance on the back of the kitchen chair. He doesn't even realise he's doing it. Looks surprised every time.
Peg up a sheet in the meantime
In my last house, the only place I had curtains was in the bedrooms. I lived by myself and just never got around to it.
To get from my bedroom to the bathroom involved walking down the hall past the dining room. Being on a corner block I could see the street through that window, between the fence palings. I figured the chances of someone actually standing there looking at the window as I did my morning nudie run to the bathroom was so small, that it wasn't worth worrying about.
Then one morning I got up, walked down the hall, and outside the dining room window was a woman in a cherry picker, checking the power lines.
I swear little kids have a special file in their heads marked "stuff mum tells me not to do". Unfortunately it's stored in a dark, spider infested aisle in their mind and is rarely opened and the contents read. At least that would explain why every.single.day I have to tell the FB NOT to wake his brother, and NOT to climb through his brother's babygym etc etc
A big fright like that will have more of an impact than 100 time outs!
My son and I were just looking at the scar on his chin from swinging between the couches nine years ago. No stitch, just a steri-strip.
Guess you want be dancing naked in THAT room!
That would be won't. Freud would have a field day with the want.
It would make me feel icky too to have my windows so open. Perhaps this is what Chickie needed to break him of the habit!
Tack up a sheet until you can fix the curtain. Then build a woodshed out back of the house and start using it...
I have watched too many scary movies, & I have a real phobia about being spied upon! Isnt it funny, there is a house near us where they havent a curtain or blind, & the seem to delight on living in full view of everyone!
Thank-you for your well wishes for my son Jacob. He is home and doing well. I will be stopping by your blog and have added you to my bloglines.
How's the redecorating coming???
h&b - no, thank goodness. The curtain rod is quite a thick wooden one so it would have given him quite a bump if it hit him.
stomper - I'd easily believe you're not exaggerating. I seem to do the same thing with Chickie.
steve - rofl. That would have given you both a shock!
velcro - lol - I call it goldfish memory.
tracey - well, it's worked so far. Not a single jump on my chair since it happened.
melinda - hehehe ;D
ogo - I felt so exposed! The habit breaking seems to be going well so far...
phos - all fixed now :)
meggie - I couldn't do what your neighbours do. Not having a curtain a few days (even though the front verandah is covered by canvas awnings) unnerved me enough!
debbi - thanks :) Glad your son is ok.
