We don't really celebrate Halloween in Australia. You might see a few costumes and scary props in a few shops if you're lucky but that's pretty much it. Apparently there was some house that put on a big display for Halloween and they made the national news. Either it's a slow news day or that shows you how rare it is.
Anyway, Chickie's childcare centre seems to like doing fun stuff for any occasion they can think of. They dress up, they have games or events for the kids etc etc. Because of this Chickie was really really really wanting to go trick or treating for real.
So, I organised with some neighbours/friends for Chickie to come over and do his trick or treating. He was so cute - all dressed up in black as a ninja. I might even have to post a pic when I get the photos off the camera. He was having fun and wanted to go to 'thousands and thousands of houses'. I had to convince him that we could only go to a couple of houses because we didn't want to be greedy. His reply? 'We'll just go show them my costume then'...

Ninja's are the coolest! I would love to see a picture! Have a great Halloween!
I just wish Aussie kids would learn what the trick part of trick or treat meant.
They say, "trick or treat"/
You say, "trick".
Then they stand there with blank expressions before one of them works up the courage to say, "You're supposed to give us something".
I was downstairs when they turned up last night. As they went up the front stairs I could here my wife and step-daughter sneaking down the back stairs.
I bet he did look cute, but without sounding like a very big pessimistic party pooper, are you sure you want to be posting pictures of your kids on the net?
People are nasty out there..
PS Steve I love it that they don't know what trick is, over here trick usually results in an egging, or a brick or worse...
awww...that's so cute. I can't believe that halloween isn't very popular in austrailia. Over here it could almost be a national holiday... (okay so I'm exaggerating) but it's almost true.
george - hope you had a great halloween too.
steve - hehe, they just don't get it do they? did you get many kids turning up (we didn't get any)?
carmelo - don't worry about being a party pooper. The costume has a hood and a mask, so you can't see much of him at all. I wouldn't post it if he was identifiable.
izzy - it's funny sometimes, there are some holidays we 'know' quite well because of tv/movies but don't celebrate at all. Thanksgiving is another.
Thanks!
I once heard that the gay population has a fairly big to do in Sydney on Halloween. Am I mistaken???
nyd - not as far as I'm aware. Only one I know about is the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, but that's in February/March.
I wear my Ninja suit to work sometimes...but that's usually a bad thing. Mean's someone's getting fired.
Do you guys have anything like Halloween?
rune - lol!
winter - not really. I think the marketing people would like to bring halloween in - for the sales they could make out of it. I can't see it happening though.
